When I was invited to appear on a podcast in Tampa, I said yes for two reasons.
First, I was already going to be in Orlando for a conference. Second, it gave me an excuse to visit my aunt and my cousin Kim.
Seemed simple enough.
What I did not account for was Kim’s husband.
That man got me snockered. Not “had a couple drinks” snockered. I mean college-level, wake-up-and-question-your-life-choices snockered. The kind of night where you start out catching up with family and end up wondering is it really three o clock.
Saturday morning came fast.
I showed up just in time for the podcast taping, technically alive. My mouth was dry. My head was pounding. My stomach was negotiating with terrorists.
But I was there.
You say yes to opportunities. You visit family. You enjoy the night. You pay for it the next morning. Then you sit down, speak in to the microphone, and do the podcast anyway.
Was it my sharpest performance?
Probably not.
Was it memorable?
Absolutely.
